Berlin (dpa) - The Berlin volleys are threatened with the quarter-finals of the volleyball Champions League.

The first leg in the round of the last eight teams lost the ten-time German champions against Italy's representative Trentino Volley on Thursday in the Max-Schmeling-Halle deservedly 1: 3 (19:25, 23:25, 28:26, 17:25) .

In the second leg in a week in Trento, the Berliners now need a 3-0 or 3-1 victory to qualify for the semi-finals with a subsequent golden set of up to 15 points.

The first sentence was decided early.

The Berlin team led 6: 4 when the Dutch Nimir Abdel-Aziz stepped onto the service line for the guests.

This was followed by a series of 0: 9 points that was depressing for the BR Volleys.

In the second round, after an ace from Sergej Grankin, the Berliners were four points ahead (10: 6), but Abdel-Aziz was able to equalize at 11:11.

The BR Volleys kept the action open afterwards.

An ace by Benjamin Patch at 22:22 raised serious hopes for a set win for the first time, but at the crucial moment the American was blocked in an attack at 23:25.

The BR Volleys were moral.

They benefited from the fact that the opponent could no longer maintain his high starting level on serve.

Anton Brehme made up a 22:23 deficit in the third section to 23:23.

Then the Berliners worked four set balls, the last one used Timothee Carle.

However, Trentino rallied again and quickly gained a comfortable seven-point lead (20:13) after a 10:10 intermediate result.

The opponent had little to counter in this phase, especially since Patch's attack attempts mostly ricocheted off the Italian block.
