The father and his sons, 15 and 17 years old, were convicted in the district court for having murdered Reza Hoseini on a bus in Kiruna in the summer of 2020 together and in concert.

Prosecutor Fredrik Hannu had demanded stricter penalties for the two sons and also demanded that the father be deported from Sweden after serving a life sentence.

The case up in the Court of Appeal

The Court of Appeal for Upper Norrland has now spent eight days reviewing testimonies and evidence from the district court hearings.

Two witnesses have also been heard again in the Court of Appeal, a counselor at the high school and the bus driver.

After the trial, it was decided that the father will remain in custody until they fall on the third of March.

However, the 17-year-old was not arrested, which the prosecutor had demanded.

- It is not really possible to draw so many conclusions from it.

But it's nice for him to avoid arrest.

He has already been in custody for four months until the district court hearings, says the 17-year-old's lawyer Anna Melander.

"Not proven that he should be involved"

According to his own statement, the 17-year-old should not have been left on the bus when the deadly violence against Reza Hoseini was handed out.

He thus denies murder and only admits assault.

- We have pressed for the same things as in the district court.

It is not proven that he was involved in the murder, says Anna Melander.

Jonas Westerlund, who represents the 15-year-old, believes that his client should be convicted of murder and not murder.

- In any case, I believe that the penalty should be shorter, he says.
