Erfurt (dpa / th) - The police in Thuringia arrested several suspected fraudsters who posed as police officers on the phone to older people.

Your goal: large sums of money.

As the police announced on Wednesday, the handcuffs clicked on Tuesday in Erfurt on three men from Hesse aged 24 and 25 who wanted to deprive an 81-year-old woman of her savings.

More than 100 attempts at fraud of this kind were registered with the police in Erfurt on Monday and Tuesday alone.

After an anonymous tip on Monday, two men aged 32 and 42 were arrested in Großfurra (Kyffhäuserkreis).

An 80-year-old was previously persuaded on the phone to deposit cash and other valuables in a garbage can.

When two men tried to pick up the loot, the police were also there.

It was initially unclear whether the two men were only collecting people or were already talking to the woman on the phone.

The police also reported numerous attempts at fraud in the Suhl area.

On Tuesday, the perpetrators had successfully convinced a woman, among other things on the phone, to hand over all her cash totaling 14,000 euros to an alleged police officer for safekeeping.

The pretext: your house has been targeted by burglars.

There are always attempts at fraud like this.

The police therefore appealed to never get involved in such conversations or even to give out bank details or cash - and instead to inform the nearest police station.
