Mainz (dpa / lrs) - For a long time the city of Zweibrücken was the municipality with the lowest incidence value in Rhineland-Palatinate, now the Kusel district has taken on this role.

On Wednesday, the so-called seven-day incidence, i.e. the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days, was 12.1 in the rural district in the southwest of the state, as the Ministry of Health announced (as of October 14 Clock).

Nationwide, this value rose minimally to 51.8 after 51.5 the previous day.

The highest values are still in the districts of Germersheim (114.7) and Birkenfeld (110).

According to the information, 377 new infections were registered within 24 hours.

The total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 101,001. Currently, 5,992 people in the country are infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

The number of deaths related to the virus rose by 31 to 3,062.

Of the detected infections, 901 were classified as "worrying variant" on Wednesday;

in a further 133 infections there was a corresponding suspicion.

The term refers to cases like the coronavirus variants first discovered in the UK and South Africa, which are considered to be more contagious.
