Stuttgart (dpa) - A corona infection is associated with a certain risk of death for everyone.

The Stuttgart mathematician Christian Hesse has now tried to break this down for variant B.1.1.7, which was initially proven in Great Britain.

"The risk of death after infection with the British mutant is more than 1000 times higher for 80-year-olds than for 20-year-olds," he told the German press agency about his bill.

Without Corona, this factor would be around 130 for men and 200 for women - death is always more likely with a senior than with a young person.

The scientist from Stuttgart University refers to the data on the so-called infectious mortality.

That is the proportion of corona deaths among all infected, whether tested or not.

For a representative sample of the population, the immune status must be determined using blood samples, among other things, in order to determine previous, undetected corona infections.

On the basis of British analyzes, Hesse calculated the danger of the Corona type B.1.1.7.

It can therefore be deduced that infection with the mutant for 55-year-old men and 35-year-old women probably doubles the normal mortality risk at this age.

It will be tripled for 80-year-old men and 60-year-old women.
