Berlin (dpa) - The Federal Ministry of the Interior had to delete a Twitter entry on the AfD, which was about a possible classification of the party as a suspected right-wing extremist case.

The Berlin Administrative Court partially granted a corresponding urgent application by the party on Wednesday.

The Ministry then removed the contribution from the short message service.

According to media reports that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies the AfD as a suspected case in an expert report, a spokesman for the ministry spoke on January 28 via Twitter.

«BM #Seehofer on the status of the # BfV report on the #AfD: My employees check the report together with the @BfV Bund from a legal point of view.

Special care is required here.

There are no political guidelines.

But I would like to have clarity in the foreseeable future, ”wrote the spokesman on his Twitter account.

The administrative court saw this as an inadmissible interference with the freedom of parties protected by the Basic Law.

Even if the term does not appear in the tweet, the ministry said "with objective understanding" that the AfD is a test case by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

This considerably reduces the equality of opportunity in political competition.

It is irrelevant here that the result of the examination has actually not yet been determined (file number VG 1 L 127/21).

The AfD chairman Jörg Meuthen welcomed the decision.

"Today is a good day for the AfD and a good day for democracy," he said.

The administrative court has proven that “illegal state action at the expense of a democratic party” can still be legally stopped.
