A climate change-themed summit will be held online at the UN Security Council, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres should keep his promise to help developed countries support developing countries with $ 100 billion annually. As a result, he called on developed countries to make further efforts.

The meeting was chaired by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the 23rd and was attended by the leaders and ministers of most of the 15 member countries on the theme of climate change and security.

At the beginning, UN Secretary-General António Guterres gave examples from Afghanistan and Sudan, pointing out that climate change has reduced crop yields, destabilizing society and increasing the risk of conflict.

He called for further efforts in developed countries, stating that "developed countries must keep their promise to support developing countries with $ 100 billion annually."

The Paris Agreement sets a goal for developed countries to support developing countries' climate change measures by $ 100 billion annually by 2020, but according to the OECD = Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, it was $ 78.9 billion in 2018. Although the funds have increased since then, the target has not been reached in 2020.

At the meeting, British Prime Minister Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron announced plans to expand financial assistance to African countries, but in the future, the United Nations will encourage the reduction of major emitting countries and support developing countries. How to secure is also likely to be an issue.
