With the “iron broom”, Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (CDU) wanted to sweep the Bundeswehr through the special forces command (KSK).

The background to this measure was the case of KSK soldier Philipp Sch., In whose private garden a weapon hiding place with thousands of rounds of ammunition, several kilograms of explosives and a Kalashnikov was excavated in May 2020.

The commander of the KSK, Markus Kreitmayr, announced a "zero tolerance" line.

Kreitmayr was considered a credible reformer - with the exception of the AfD, which sees him as a "political general" who turned against its own soldiers. In any case, Kramp-Karrenbauer appointed the brigadier general to the working group that takes care of the reorganization of the elite association. But a statement by the elite soldier Philipp Sch. now raises doubts about the role of Kreitmayr - and thus also about the defense minister herself.
