Munich (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's Police Task Act (PAG) also divides the mood in the state parliament in its form, which has been defused by the government.

The CSU and Free Voters defended the reform they had formulated on Wednesday in the first meeting in parliament, the Greens, SPD and AfD didn’t give a damn about the law that regulates the use of the police in the Free State.

The FDP expressed itself cautiously, but, like the other opposition factions, also clearly referred to its doubts about the controversial concept of "imminent danger".

After long and tough negotiations, the CSU and Free Voters found a compromise in December to defuse the controversial Bavarian Police Task Act.

Among other things, the amending law provides that the police will in future have fewer powers in the event of a so-called "imminent danger".

Here it is only allowed to act when it comes to extremely important legal interests such as the protection of life.

So far, this has also been possible when “substantial property positions” appeared threatened.

Green parliamentary leader Katharina Schulze emphasized that the weaving errors in the law would not be eliminated by the reform.

This is the postponement of police powers "far into the advance of danger" and unconstitutional.

Like the SPD, she pointed out that the amendment would have no impact on ongoing lawsuits against the PAG.

SPD parliamentary group leader Horst Arnold also criticized the fact that unclear wording in the law made the already difficult work of the police unnecessarily difficult in practice.

For years, the law has been the cause of massive criticism from opposition and civil rights activists.

Many thousands of people had demonstrated against it on the initiative of an alliance of more than 100 organizations, because they see the democratic rights of the people at risk.

In contrast, Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) defended the law that the amendment would make it more transparent and understandable, while at the same time improving the level of protection for citizens.
