Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the 30 years of its existence, the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW has supported 9555 projects with more than 930 million euros.

Over 1.5 billion euros flowed back to the location through the regional effect of the funded projects and led to the employment of studios, service providers and creative people, the film funding agency announced on Wednesday in Düsseldorf.

On February 27, 1991, North Rhine-Westphalia founded the Filmstiftung NRW together with the WDR.

Other shareholders today are also the broadcasters ZDF and RTL.

The Film- und Medienstiftung has supported many subsequent public successes over the past 30 years.

Already the first use in 1991 for the movie "Schtonk" with Götz George brought an Oscar nomination.

Other successful productions were “The boy must get some fresh air” based on childhood memories of Hape Kerkeling, “Toni Erdmann” by Maren Ade or Philipp Stölzl's “Der Medicus” with actor Sir Ben Kingsley.

The foundation supports project-related cinema and television films, the modernization of cinemas, the development of radio plays and digital content, and the training of the next generation.

Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) said that the Film- und Medienstiftung takes care of one of the most beautiful and diverse cultural assets.

"Films can make you laugh, make you cry, educate, educate, document," he said.

Petra Müller has headed the Düsseldorf Film Foundation since 2010.

In the past three decades, NRW has become one of the leading film and media locations in Germany and Europe, she explained.
