The World Health Organization and WHO have decided to compensate for serious side effects from vaccination through'CoVax', an international project for joint purchase of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In a statement on the 22nd local time, Reuters reported that the WHO announced the launch of a fund program that compensates citizens of 92 countries, including poor countries such as Africa and Southeast Asia, who suffer serious side effects from COVAX's Corona 19 vaccination, without taking responsibility for negligence.

Compensation targets are those who suffered side effects after receiving the Corona 19 vaccine supplied through COVAX until June 30, 2022.

The WHO said, "Any claim for damages will be compensated collectively through a final and complete settlement. The goal is to significantly reduce the need for time and costly court trials."

Among countries that receive COVAX's COVID-19 vaccine, questions and concerns have been raised about how claims for damages will be made if a serious side effect occurs due to the vaccine.

Accordingly, the WHO has discussed the issue for several months, and explained that this is the first and only one to offer compensation for damage to vaccinations at an international level.

The WHO will raise capital for this fund by charging an additional fee to the COVAX vaccine.

"It will help countries where side effects may be reported and increase vaccination rates," said Seth Berkeley, president of the Global Vaccine Immunization Association. "This program is an important benefit for low-income countries receiving vaccines with COVAX."
