Moving from the big city to Gotland and keeping your job at a distance is something that may become more common, believes Niklas Harlevi, broker at Länsförsäkringar fastighetsförmedling in Visby.

- Many have probably been on the road before, but the pandemic has now given employers reassurance that it is possible to get the same work done from home, he says.

This summer, Gotland passed a milestone when it became over 60,000 inhabitants for the first time.

During the pandemic, many holiday home owners have chosen to settle temporarily on the island.

The hope is that they choose to stay for good.

- Right now we are about 4500 more people on the island than we were at the same time last year, says Karin Bill, strategist in regional development at Region Gotland.
