London (AP) - The legendary London concert hall Royal Albert Hall has ushered in its anniversary year with a tribute to live music and performances.

For the poem "For Friends Only" by WH Auden, performed by Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger (77), the theater shows a cut of highlights from the past decades in the one and a half minute clip.

"Your room will be ready" advertises the house with a line from the poem to attract visitors after the pandemic.

The pictures of celebrities such as Winston Churchill, Adele, Freddie Mercury, Albert Einstein or Bob Dylan are repeatedly cut against scenes of the corona-related empty theater.

The concert hall was opened in 1871 - celebrating its 150th birthday this year.

Without a doubt, the Royal Albert Hall is one of the greatest venues in the world, Jagger said in a statement.

"I have some wonderful memories of performing with the Stones there in the 1960s," said the singer.

"When it got a little wild once or twice, with enthusiastic fans joining us on stage and almost bringing the show to an abrupt end - but we kept going and had a great time."

Like other concert halls, the Royal Albert Hall also had to close in the corona pandemic - for the first time since the Second World War.

Since then, 330 events have been canceled, the loss of income amounts to 34 million pounds (just under 40 million euros) according to the Royal Albert Hall Trust.

According to plans by the British government, which Prime Minister Boris Johnson presented on Monday, concert halls will not be allowed to open until May 17th at the earliest.
