Mohamed Bazoum, former Minister of the Interior and candidate of the ruling party, won the second round of the Nigerien presidential election with 55.75% of the vote, ahead of former President Mahamane Ousmane (44.25%), according to the official results published Tuesday, February 23 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (Céni).

He will thus succeed as head of state to Mahamadou Issoufou, who could not stand again.

These "results are provisional and must be submitted to the Constitutional Court for analysis," said Issaka Souna, president of the Ceni, before the diplomatic corps and the Nigerien authorities gathered at the Niamey convention center.
