In Lyon, the controversy around the unique meatless menus imposed by the municipality is not weakening.

If the ecological town hall denies promoting a particular mode of food and justifies this temporary measure by a question of organization in the face of health restrictions, some parents of students are considering legal action.

TESTIMONY

A controversy that does not abate.

The unique menus without meat offered in the canteens of Lyon by the ecological municipality arouses a national debate which divides, including among the majority.

The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, had denounced "a scandalous ideology", while Julien Denormandie, Minister of Agriculture, again attacked the mayor EELV Grégory Doucet on Tuesday.

For his part, Olivier Véran, visiting Lyon, played rather appeasement.

On the side of some parents of students, the decision does not pass either.

They are considering legal action to overturn the measure.

"A form of ideology"

"It's a way of blocking people in their choices, in their freedoms. School restaurants are places where a lot of things are played out for children and especially eating behaviors. So giving them a choice is fundamental" , denounces Christophe, father of a 4-year-old boy, educated in a school in the Croix-Rousse district, at the microphone of Europe 1.

"It is not at all to give them absolutely meat or absolutely vegetables but to offer them a panel of possibilities with several alternatives that they can choose when they are older," he adds.

"There is a real political and ideological action behind all this. It is not possible: we do not think of children at all. It is a way of imposing, while there is a law. in a form of ideology. "

The fear of a definitive measure

The Lyon municipality has already defended itself from promoting a particular mode of food and explains this temporary measure by a simple question of organization.

Indeed, because of sanitary measures in schools, in particular a distance of two meters imposed between students in school restaurants, the time required for catering for all students is lengthened.

The use of single menus would thus aim to streamline the service, so that all meals can be served during lunch time.

"I absolutely do not believe it", replies Christophe.

"There was no consultation that was made to pass this obligation. And in addition it makes no sense. There are other means. It has nothing to do with me."

Like other parents, he fears that this temporary measure will become final.

"This is also why a lot of people are going to mobilize because once things are set in motion, there is no going back possible."

A legal appeal will be filed on Friday and examined within two weeks.
