More than 500,000 dead in the United States

"More Americans have died in this pandemic than in WWI, WWII and the Vietnam War combined," President Joe Biden said in a proclamation on Monday, less than a year after the announcement. , on February 29, 2020, of the first death from the virus in the United States.

The country has now deplored more than 500,000 deaths since Monday evening.

The threshold of 400,000 deaths had been exceeded a month earlier, on the eve of the inauguration of Joe Biden, who made the fight against the epidemic the top priority of his start in office.

In the United States, the current rhythm of vaccinations (1.7 million daily injections on average) gives hope, however.

"I believe that we will get closer to normality by the end of this year," Joe Biden said on Friday.

More than 44.1 million people have already received at least one dose of the two vaccines authorized in the United States (Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna), of which 19.4 million have had the two required injections.

According to Joe Biden, 600 million doses, enough to vaccinate the entire population, will be available by the end of July.

And the United States may well have a third vaccine authorized by the end of the week, that of Johnson & Johnson, on which a committee is due to issue an advisory opinion on Friday.

A timid optimism echoed on Monday, the announcement of the reopening of New York cinemas, scheduled for March 5, with a maximum level of 25% of the usual capacity and a limit of 50 spectators per room.

The Côte d'Azur confined for the next two weekends

In France, the situation remains worrying.

84,613 deaths were recorded Monday evening, or 333 more bits in 24 hours.

Hospital pressure remains very high.

In detail, there are 25,831 patients hospitalized for a coronavirus infection, or 367 more than on Sunday.

The same goes for serious cases in intensive care units, since they register 15 more patients than during the last check-in, for a total of 3,407 patients.

But some regions are harder hit than others.

This is the case for the Côte d'Azur in general and Nice in particular.

So Monday, the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes announced additional localized restrictions.

The area concerned extends from Menton to Théoule-sur-Mer, or nearly 90% of the population of the department.

The municipalities of Nice and Cannes are particularly concerned.

During the next two weekends, travel will therefore be prohibited from Friday at 6 p.m. to Monday at 6 a.m., except for exceptional reasons.

Shopping malls of more than 5,000 square meters will be closed in the department, with the exception of pharmacies and food stores.

For shops over 400m2, the gauge will drop from 10 to 15m2 per visitor.

Finally, border controls will be stepped up, at the airport or on the roads, with random PCR tests organized by the police.

The British government has announced that it aims to reopen non-essential shops, outdoor pubs and restaurants and museums from April 12 in England.
