Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - With the early vaccinations of teachers and educators, there will be no competition with the vaccinations of the police, according to NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU).

In just a few months, North Rhine-Westphalia will have so much vaccine that “there will be no collisions,” Laschet said on Tuesday in Düsseldorf.

Laschet did not give specific details about the vaccination procedure for teaching staff and daycare workers.

The new prioritization must also be officially decided by the federal government.

But this will be "settled in the next few days".

The start of the early vaccinations is possible as early as March, said Laschet.

The federal and state health ministers agreed on Monday to upgrade teachers at primary and special schools and kindergarten teachers from group three (higher priority) to group two (high priority) in the sequence of vaccinations.

Group two also includes many chronically ill and people over 70 as well as police officers, according to Laschet.

North Rhine-Westphalia Vice-Prime Minister Joachim Stamp (FDP) warned against “playing off” the professional groups against each other in the case of early vaccinations.

The NRW state chairman of the police union (GdP), Michael Mertens, had said in the "Rheinische Post": "I am stunned that the police should now slide backwards."
