Munich (AP) - The billionaire and majority shareholder of the brake specialist Knorr-Bremse, Heinz Hermann Thiele, is dead. According to the company, he died surprisingly on Tuesday at the age of 79.

Thiele was most recently deputy chairman and honorary chairman of the supervisory board and previously for many years chairman of the board and then head of the supervisory body.

He became known to the general public in 2020 when he became Lufthansa's largest shareholder in the Corona crisis.

He had criticized the state's entry to rescue the airline, but then agreed.
