Kiel (AP) - Fifth victory for THW Kiel in the preliminary round of the handball Champions League: The German champions defeated the Danish representative Aalborg HB with 28:26 (15:15) on Tuesday.

Niclas Ekberg scored six goals for THW.

Sebastian Barthold was successful seven times for Aalborg.

Just two days after the 24:24 in the Bundesliga against SC Magdeburg, THW coach Filip Jicha tried to distribute the stress among his players.

The ailing Norwegian Sander Sagosen stayed on the bench and was represented by Oskar Sunnefeldt.

Miha Zarabec was not yet operational after the two-week quarantine.

In the attack in Kiel, Harald Reinkind and Hendrik Pekeler in particular set the tone.

It was then also the Norwegian Reinkind who scored the zebras' first three-goal lead with an 11: 8 in the 21st minute.

The guests remained dangerous mainly because of their speed game.

In the 36th minute, Aalborg was ahead with 18:16.

Led by captain Domagoj Duvnjak, Kiel relied on the seventh field player.

40 seconds before the end, Ekberg brought THW onto the winning road with a 28:26.

The people of Kiel don't have much time to regenerate.

On Thursday they have to play for the away game in the premier class at HBC Nantes in France.
