In 2019, the Swedish Transport Administration was commissioned by the government to work harder to secure the country's most dangerous level crossings.

That is, intersections where trains and railways meet on the same "plane".

The greatest risks are associated with the unguarded level crossings, where both the barrier and the light signal are missing.

One of them is the transition in Salekärr outside Uddevalla where two people died in mid-February.

Five have so far been remedied, but the fact that a fatal accident occurred at an intersection does not mean that it is given higher priority among those with whom the Swedish Transport Administration in the west is now working.

- The fatal accidents make them come, but the accidents are also very random.

You can not be completely sure until you have a level crossing, says Bengt Rydhed, deputy regional director of the Swedish Transport Administration West.
