Erlangen (dpa / lby) - One of the most famous folk festivals in Bavaria, the Erlangen Bergkirchweih, will be canceled again this year.

The city canceled the festival traditionally held at Pentecost on Tuesday.

Despite the start of the vaccinations, a Bergkirchweih, as usual, is unimaginable, said Lord Mayor Florian Janik (SPD).

The minimum distance or the mask requirement are not feasible with up to one million visitors.

The Erlanger Bergkirchweih is one of the largest folk festivals in the greater Nuremberg area.

From May 20th to 31st, around 100 rides and 17 festival hosts should provide entertainment on the festival site.

Since 1755, the Bergkirchweih had to be canceled 18 times: in 2021 and 2020 due to the corona pandemic.

Before that, among other things, the death of King Ludwig II and the two world wars were responsible for the fact that people could not celebrate the "mountain".
