Cuxhaven / Brunsbüttel (dpa) - It should start on Monday: The new Elbe ferry "Greenferry I" starts its ferry service between Brunsbüttel in Schleswig-Holstein and Cuxhaven in Lower Saxony.

The interior fittings were finished on time, said a spokesman for the operator Elbferry on Tuesday.

The crossing should take a maximum of one hour.

The ferry is supposed to rotate every three hours.

According to the information, there is room for 150 cars, 28 trucks and 600 people on the almost 130-meter-long ferry.

Due to the corona restrictions, however, only a fraction of the capacities can initially be used.

A festive start-up with guests should also be avoided.

The ship, which runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), was already in use as a ferry in Norway under the name “Fanafjord”.

As shareholders of Elbferry, the Reederei Strahlmann and MTB New Energy from Brunsbüttel are on board.

The last two attempts to connect the Elbe between Cuxhaven and Brunsbüttel failed after a short time, and the last ferry service for the time being was stopped in 2017.
