Washington (AP) - US President Joe Biden has urgently warned against dulling in view of the high number of corona deaths.

«We have to fight against becoming deaf to suffering.

We have to fight against seeing every life as a statistic, ”demanded Biden in an address in the White House.

“We have to do this to honor the dead.

It is just as important to care for the living, those who have been left behind, ”Biden said.

Every corona death had family, friends and an "extraordinary life" that ended too soon.

The United States passed the threshold of more than half a million corona deaths on Monday.

After the speech, Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Douglas Emhoff honored the victims with a minute's silence on the south side of the White House, where numerous candles were lit.

They bowed their heads and shortly afterwards a military band played the song "Amazing Grace".
