February 23, 2021 He was not worried, but rather happy for the mission he had to fulfill.

To remember Luca Attanasio, the Italian ambassador killed in the attack in Congo together with the carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci, is his father Salvatore.

Talk to the Ansa in his home, surrounded by photos and memories.

And he draws the portrait of an optimistic man, full of imagination and the ability to involve others in his projects, many and aimed at good.

The last farewell last Sunday

Salvatore says he heard his son last Sunday, the day before the ambush in the Virunga National Park: "He was not worried at all, he explained his mission, he told us what the objectives were. always a person aimed at others, he has always done good to everyone, and has always been projected towards high ideals, capable of involving anyone in his projects, something that might seem unclear to me, he made it different, positive. He was an honest, correct person, never a disagreement. We are destroyed, it is an immeasurable loss ".

The world collapsed on us

Then he goes back to the moment when he learned the dramatic news: "In thirty seconds the memories of a life have passed, the world has collapsed on us. These are unfair things, which must not happen. For us, life is over. But now we must think of the granddaughters, these three creatures had grasslands in front of them with a father like that. They still don't know what happened, they don't realize ", says Salvatore Attanasio.

"Even their mother, Luca's wife, is destroyed by grief".

His Africa

Finally, a thought about Africa, so important for his son, but far away for him: "I lived Africa through him, we have been there, but for a short time".
