The US President, Joe Biden, has warned of complacency in the face of the Corona pandemic, with the number of virus deaths in the United States reaching more than half a million deaths.

For its part, Austria, which was taken aback by the second wave of "Covid-19" in the fall, has taken proactive steps this time, with three million checks per week to detect the epidemic.

In detail, Biden said, during a memorial to the victims of "Corona": "We must resist the feeling of indifference because of sadness ... We must resist looking at every life in terms of statistics or blurring."

He added, "We should do this to honor the dead, but caring for the living is just as important."

In a statement honoring the victims, US President Joe Biden ordered the flag to be flown at half-mast on government buildings, until sunset on Friday.

Biden said: "On this solemn occasion, we think of their loss, and of their loved ones ... We as a nation must remember them, so that we can begin to recover and unite, and find a goal as a nation to defeat this pandemic."

"While we acknowledge the magnitude of the large number of deaths in America, remember each person and the life they lived," Biden said in a sad speech at the White House after the churches ranged.

He continued, saying: "The son who used to call his mother every night ... the father and daughter who lit his world, the best friend who was always there ... the nurse who made her patients desire life."

The White House said in the statement: "This is more Americans, who died in one year due to this pandemic, more than the number of victims of World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War ... combined."

A few moments later, Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and her husband Douglas Imhoff appeared, dressed in black, wearing black masks, and stood for a minute of silence on the south side of the White House, where many candles were lit.

The total number of deaths related to the Corona virus, in the United States, reached more than 500,000 deaths on Monday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States reached this huge number of deaths, at a time when the Biden administration is trying to intensify efforts to vaccinate more people against the deadly virus.

A total of 64.2 million doses of the Coronavirus vaccine were given in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Vaccination Tracker website.

The Biden administration aims to vaccinate at least 100 million people in its first 100 days in office.

The United States, with a population of about 330 million, has recorded more than 28 million confirmed cases of the virus so far.

Earlier, Biden had ordered the lowering of the American flag over government buildings, military bases, and all diplomatic missions abroad for a period of five days.

For its part, Austria, which was surprised by the second wave of "Covid-19" in the fall, has taken proactive steps this time, with three million checks to detect the epidemic per week, half of them in schools, so that this small country will be a pioneer in this field.

More than 500 specialized centers, 900 pharmacies and 1,000 companies provide free checks to detect the Coronavirus, while students undergo the same procedure twice a week.

At first, this approach did not receive echoes when, at the height of the December lockdown, the first centers were established, and newspapers titled "collective tests without crowds."

But it accelerated in early February as restrictions eased, and attitudes began to change out of necessity.

Because it is now necessary to present a negative examination, of no more than 48 hours, when going to the hairdresser, or some ski resorts, or at the entrances of retirement homes.

"Our strategy is to conduct a large number of examinations and to facilitate their conduct," said Katarina Reich, chief physician at the Ministry of Health.

"This is the only way to control the epidemic," she added, while the mutated copies are causing concern, as vaccination processes progress slowly.

"We want to go to a higher level," Reich said, expressing hope that "60 or 70% of the population of 8.9 million will be tested twice or even three times a week."

In addition to this widespread procedure, residents will be able to obtain, from March 1, tests that can be taken at home.

Germany extends monitoring at border crossings for 8 days

Germany decided to extend control of border crossings with the Czech Republic and the Austrian state of Tirol, until next March 3, in the context of combating new mutations of the Corona virus.

A spokesman for the German Interior Ministry said, in statements, that the ban and the rules in effect on entry from these two areas would remain unchanged until then.

The European Commission sent a letter of complaint to the German ambassador to the European Union in Brussels, Michael Klaus, regarding these restrictions, explaining that many of the regulations are disproportionate or unjustified.

"We believe that Germany's understandable goal (to protect public health during a pandemic), can be achieved through less restrictive measures," the commission added in the letter.

The Commission now expects to receive a response within 10 working days.

Similar messages have been sent to Belgium, Hungary, Denmark, Sweden and Finland, whose border measures are also not approved by the UNHCR.

Germany has designated the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Tyrol as regions with dangerous mutations of the Coronavirus, since February 14.

Therefore, entry is prohibited, with few exceptions

Thailand considers canceling quarantine for tourists who have received the Corona vaccine

Thailand is studying the possibility of canceling the two-week quarantine requirement for tourists coming to the country, provided that they submit a document stating that they have received the Coronavirus vaccination, at a time when the country is seeking to revive the economy affected by the Corona pandemic.

And Bloomberg News quoted Prime Minister Prayut Chan Usha as saying yesterday that his government is considering allowing visitors, who have a certificate stating that they have been vaccinated against the Corona virus, not to undergo quarantine, adding that the authorities will work to come up with a plan, to track them during their stay in the country.

The plan to relax the rules for tourists represents a change in Thailand's position, after three months of insisting that all tourists be subject to quarantine, in the absence of sufficient evidence that vaccination prevents transmission.

The implementation of this plan will boost the tourism sector, which used to contribute a fifth to the economy before the Corona pandemic.
