Munich (dpa) - Bavaria wants to commemorate the more than 12,000 deaths of the corona pandemic with an act of mourning in the state parliament before Easter.

"We want to pause together, give a face to the people behind the daily published figures and express our sympathy," said Landtag President Ilse Aigner (CSU) on Tuesday in Munich.

The funeral is to take place on March 23rd from 2 p.m. in the plenary hall of the Maximilianeum.

It will then also be broadcast live on Bavarian television.

In addition, there should be a nationwide minute's silence for the victims at 2.30 p.m.

The idea for a central memorial act actually came from Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier.

The central event should not be until April 18th.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, more than 68,000 people have died in connection with the corona virus across Germany since the pandemic began around a year ago.

The Bavarian memorial act is to be held before a session of the state parliament.

In addition to Aigner and Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU), the chairwoman of the Bavarian Ethics Council and former regional bishop, Susanne Breit-Keßler, will also give a speech.

"With the joint memorial act by the state government and the state parliament, we are sending a signal that the many dead from the corona pandemic have not been forgotten," said Söder.

Every single death leaves a deep void in relatives, relatives and friends.

“Every single death hurts, every loss is infinitely heavy.

It is therefore the moral duty of politics to contain this terrible pandemic so that we do not have to mourn far more victims. "
