Erfurt (dpa / th) - According to the State Hospital Association, the acute clinics in Thuringia lost revenue of around 44.2 million euros in January due to the corona pandemic.

Compared to January 2020, the bed occupancy in the houses has decreased by an average of a quarter each, said the company - in which the clinic operators are organized - on Tuesday, citing a survey of its members.

A decline of a good 15 percent compared to 2019 - the year before the outbreak of the pandemic - is expected for the entire year.

The problem is that the loss of revenue is not fully compensated for by the compensation payments set by the federal government, complained President Gundula Werner.

In the pandemic, many hospitals postponed scheduled treatments to make room for treating Covid-19 patients.

The occupancy rate is also limited because of hygiene measures, and many patients shy away from inpatient treatment during the pandemic.

According to the Federal Office for Social Security, the houses receive flat-rate compensation payments of 360 to 760 euros per case for the lost revenue.

According to the State Hospital Association, this is initially guaranteed until April 11th.

However, according to Werner, the funds only flow if the seven-day incidence in the respective region is over 70 per 100,000 inhabitants and at the same time less than 25 percent of the intensive care beds are free.

In addition, the houses would have to be classified as Covid-19 focus clinics.

Many houses could not meet these requirements.

Psychiatric and psychosomatic clinics and specialist departments would be completely without support.

According to the Federal Office, Thuringian hospitals have received around 402 million euros in compensation payments since the beginning of the pandemic (as of February 15).

There are around 40 acute care hospitals in Thuringia.
