If curfew is still in effect on Wednesday, March 17, voters and vote counters are not required to adhere to the curfew.

That is what outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte said on Tuesday evening.

The parliamentary elections are on that day.

It is not yet clear whether the curfew on March 17 will still apply.

On Tuesday evening, Rutte announced that the curfew has been extended by at least two weeks, so that it now ends at 4.30 on Monday, March 15.

Rutte expressed the hope that the curfew "will no longer be necessary".

On March 8, the cabinet will announce whether the prohibition to be on the street between 9 p.m. and 4.30 a.m. will still apply after March 15.

Voting rooms are open until 9 p.m. during the elections.
