The Paris Police Prefecture has issued an order "prohibiting the consumption of alcohol on certain streets of the capital in order to fight against the spread of the virus", one can read in a press release.

The measure takes effect on Tuesday for a period of 15 days.

The two streets concerned are rue de Buci, in the 6th arrondissement, and Place de la Contrescarpe, in the 5th.

Alcohol consumption is therefore prohibited from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the time when the curfew begins.

Due to groupings of people observed this weekend, the Prefect of Police issued an order prohibiting the consumption of alcohol on rue de Buci and place de la Contrescarpe, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., from Tuesday 23/02 in order to fight against the spread of # COVID19.

Barrier gestures and gentle temperatures

The prefecture indicates to have observed during the weekend "groups of people, linked in particular to the consumption of alcohol", "in favor of the mild temperatures".

“These gatherings on the public highway, favored by the consumption of alcoholic beverages, have led to behavior contrary to barrier gestures, likely to promote the spread of the virus at a time when the health situation remains fragile.

"

Violators are liable to a fine of 135 euros until March 9, the date on which the measure ends.

The list of streets concerned "is likely to change," warned the prefecture.
