A prominent journalist in Afghanistan, Anisa Shahid became the first person to receive a coronavirus vaccine in Afghanistan, after the vaccination campaign against the virus was launched yesterday.

Journalist Anisa received the first dose of the vaccine, followed by a doctor, and two members of the Afghan security forces.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said during a ceremony to launch the campaign that media workers are always targeted by those who want to silence their voices.

"Our voices for freedom, equality and the national sovereignty of the country will not be silenced," he added.

He explained that members of the security forces are combating terrorist threats, and health workers are combating the threat posed by the Corona pandemic.

He said, "I have issued my orders to build a monument, which will include the names of all the doctors, nurses and nurses who lost their lives, to honor their sacrifices."

Early this month, Afghanistan received 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from India.

The Ministry of Health aims to vaccinate about 250,000 people, with priority being given to health care workers.

According to the latest data, Afghanistan has recorded more than 2,400 deaths from the virus, and more than 55,000 infections.

Of the infected, 48,000 have recovered from the virus.
