Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, 243 new corona infections were reported within 24 hours.

The seven-day incidence, i.e. the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week, was 89.80 on Tuesday, said the Ministry of Social Affairs in Magdeburg.

Since last Wednesday the value had been over 90.

From Monday to Tuesday, 33 deaths related to the virus were also reported.

Thus, a total of 2,366 people have died in the country in connection with the virus.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, Saxony-Anhalt, together with the neighboring state of Thuringia, continues to be one of the regions with the highest infection rate nationwide.

The Robert Koch Institute gave the national average on Tuesday at 60.5.

A total of 59 193 corona cases have been recorded in Saxony-Anhalt since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, 101 intensive care and ventilation beds are occupied by Covid 19 patients;

59 of these patients are artificially ventilated.

Since the vaccination started, 84 192 people across the country have received the first injection, 47 570 also the second.

According to the ministry, there were 3,638 first vaccinations on Monday.

The rate for first vaccinations is around 3.84 percent nationwide, and that for second vaccinations is 2.17 percent.
