On Monday, the county administrative board received answers to collected DNA samples that show that a wolf killed reindeer near Junkön.

It was just over a week ago that the county administrative board received an alarm that a wolf had probably killed reindeer in the Luleå archipelago where three Sami villages have their reindeer this winter.

- We went out to the place and collected DNA samples and now we also know which wolf it is.

Erik Granerot continues:

- It is a wolf male that has previously been found with the help of DNA in Haapajärvi in Finland.

During the autumn of last year, it moved in the vicinity of Töre.

Age is difficult to say, but the county administrative board believes that it is a young wolf that moves in large areas.

Dead reindeer also in the Haparanda archipelago

A few days after the wolf-killed reindeer were discovered in the Luleå archipelago, Liehittäja concession Sami village reported that they had reindeer killed at Sandskär in the Haparanda archipelago.

- It may very well be the same wolf but we do not have DNA analyzes yet, says Erik Granrot.

In what way is the county administrative board acting now?

- We are trying to get more reports so we can follow where the wolf is.

If someone applies for protection hunting, it is something we have to decide on, but it is not on my table, says Erik Granrot.
