Regional 2021 in Occitania: A second term for Carole Delga or a work-study?

-

  • The health crisis linked to Covid-19 has postponed regional elections by six months.

    The National Assembly has fixed, in mid-February, the election dates for June 13 and 20.

  • Four months before the ballot,

    20 Minutes

    takes stock of the declared or announced candidates, especially men, to succeed the socialist Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie region.

  • But the left does not leave gathered behind it, while the RN is historically strong, especially on the coast of this very vast territory.

She is there and she wants to stay there.

Carole Delga, the outgoing socialist president of the Occitanie region threw herself early, in the fall, into the battle to win a second term.

Citizen platform to co-create the program, multiplication of local announcements to support residents in the health crisis, the former Secretary of State of François Hollande is gaining momentum.

Because the united front of the left that it called for to face the National Rally, the second political force of the regional hemicycle, will probably not be there in the first round.

Allies in the current majority, environmentalists have unsurprisingly decided to test their popularity, in the wake of the municipal elections.

Their head of the list Antoine Maurice (EEVL), unsuccessful candidate for the Capitol, does not miss an opportunity to highlight the disagreements with Carole Delga, on the need for a motorway between Toulouse and Castres for example, or on the arrival of the TGV in the pink City.

The EELV activists even this time disdained the outstretched hand of La France insoumise of Myriam Martin and Manuel Bompard, a close friend of Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

A dispersion to the left which will only complicate the second round negotiations that the outgoing will inevitably have to carry out.

The favorite outgoing, the RN in ambush

The good news for Carole Delga is that she is well ahead of the voting intentions: at 25%, in the Ifop-Fiducial poll for Sud Radio on January 13.

Behind her, MEP Jean-Paul Garraud, not yet invested by the national office of the RN, is only 16%.

But only because this poll also tested what a connoisseur of the right calls "a speculative bubble: the tandem of adventurers Ménard-Barèges, the marinist mayor of Béziers and the LR mayor very to the right of Montauban, who stands out in 14%.

Except that the bubble has just burst since Brigitte Barèges, sentenced at first instance for embezzlement of public funds, is no longer eligible.

Moreover Julien Sanchez, leader of the RN group in the region and another candidate for the nomination, is not mistaken.

He automatically adds up, placing his camp at 25%.

“Our ambition is to win the region,” assures the mayor of Beaucaire, who takes his easy re-election and that of Robert Ménard in Béziers as proof of his party's capacity for good management.

Even if the cast changes since now Louis Aliot (first in the 1st round of the regional 2015 with 31%) has passed the scarf of mayor of Perpignan.

An indecisive right, a troublemaker on the march

Julien Sanchez also noted that LR is flirting dangerously for the time being with the 10% mark below which a list cannot be maintained.

For Julien Sanchez who claims to have numerous testimonies of a desire for rapprochement in the classical right, the hypothetical reservoir of voices is attractive.

And precisely at LR, the prospect of such a heavy responsibility delays the process of nominating the candidate.

Three are expected: the media deputy of Lot and secretary general of the party, Aurélien Pradié, whose interest is less and less obvious;

Christophe Rivenq, the president of the agglomeration of Alès and boss of the right to the regional council which puts much more enthusiasm there;

and the Aveyron deputy Arnaud Viala, who can serve as a link between Toulouse and Montpellier.

Our election dossier

With an additional difficulty for the right which could be competed with on its center: Vincent Terrail-Novès left LR to engage in a “transpartisan” approach, a regional version of En Marche, which predestines it to the LREM label.

"I have not yet given my answer, explains the mayor of Balma for the time being.

I discuss with the parties in the center, with citizens too, I move forward ”.

He will say "end of February-beginning of March" if he fits into the voting equation, still with several unknowns.
