But the population is shrinking in eight out of 15 municipalities in the county.
We see the largest increase in Vännäs (1.4 percent), while the largest decrease is in Dorotea (2.1 percent).
- We had a good development until the summer, but then there were some really big families who moved, says Dorotea's municipal councilor Nicke Grahn (L).
He believes that the trend can be reversed, partly due to more people trying to work remotely during the pandemic and that this may mean that more people see the possibility of moving to Dorotea in the future.
In both Umeå and Skellefteå, the population is increasing.
Umeå increased by 1323 inhabitants, Skellefteå by 251.
- What makes the population in Västerbotten increase compared to the year before is above all the influx. The county registers 8,894 immigrants, compared with 7,808 migrants, says Linus Garp, population statistician at Statistics Sweden, in a press release.
