Justice: Judicial offensive against the Generalitat for the riots in Barcelona
After six uninterrupted nights of riots in Catalonia,
Pere Aragonès
was kind
enough
to show his face.
Pressured by the avalanche of political and business critics for his silence in the face of the altercations derived from the imprisonment of rapper Pablo Hasel, the acting president of the Generalitat appeared.
He did it to convey a message of "support" to the Mossos d'Esquadra, which have been threatening for days with an unprecedented plant in protest of the support of the independence forces that form the Government towards the violent.
The ERC president stressed the status of "democratic police" of the autonomous body, but then promised to "update it" in the next legislature, in what is an obvious nod to the CUP and JxCat, which have led the attacks on the Mossos in the last week while negotiating the investiture of Aragonès.
The republican intervened with leaden feet, measuring his words and adjusting them to the post-electoral impasse that will determine whether he takes over the presidency of the Generalitat.
Thus, after denouncing "the violent acts" that have already led to
126 arrests
throughout Catalonia, Aragonès reduced them to episodes starring "minority groups" that have nothing to do "with those who defend freedom of expression."
"We have to analyze the causes of this deep malaise," agreed the acting president of the Generalitat in another nod to the anti-system group that leads the riots under the banner of Arran, the youth of the CUP.
After his prolonged silence, Aragonès agreed to offer more detailed explanations in the Parliament at the request of the parliamentary groups.
The PSC was the first to demand that Quim Torra's successor appear in the Catalan Chamber.
The Socialists move token to wear down the Republican while claiming Salvador Illa's right to be inaugurated.
