In 2020, the population increased by 51,706 people, which is the lowest population increase in Sweden in 15 years. The decrease is due to high deaths as a result of the corona pandemic, but also a halving of the immigration surplus compared with the previous year.

The population increased by 0.5 per cent last year, which is the lowest increase since 2005. This is shown by the official population statistics that Statistics Sweden (SCB) publishes today.
