Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - While police officers wanted to arrest a suspected robber in Frankfurt, a group of four or five men attacked the officers with pepper spray, among other things.

As the police announced on Monday, two officers were slightly injured and were initially no longer fit for duty.

During the attack, one of the police officers fired a warning shot up into the air.

According to the police, civil investigators observed a 35-year-old and a 19-year-old in a suspected robbery in Frankfurt's station district on Saturday evening.

The men tore the wallet from a passerby during a physical altercation.

The 35-year-old man was arrested on site under resistance.

The 19-year-old had initially fled and was followed by the police to the station forecourt.

When the 19-year-old was arrested, the group of four to five people showed solidarity with the alleged perpetrator.

The officers were threatened with a knife and sprayed with pepper spray.

After the warning shot was given, the group fled.

The police are investigating attempted release from prisoners.
