Fürth (AP) - SpVgg Greuther Fürth has won the top game of the 2nd Bundesliga against Holstein Kiel and is now the first pursuer of front runner Hamburger SV.

Thanks to the 2: 1 (1: 1) victory in the entertaining Monday game, the Franks improved to second place in the table.

HSV, Fürth, VfL Bochum and Kiel are now tied with 42 points each.

Joshua Mees (4th minute) gave Kiel, who negligently handled their chances, an early lead.

Havard Nielsen (27.) managed to equalize with a picture-book header.

A second goal from Nielsen (67th) was not given due to video evidence due to offside.

Alexander Mühling (83rd) hit his own goal shortly before the end and sealed Kiel's first defeat in the back of the season.

The aggressive and sprinting strong Kielers played the Fürth almost dizzy time after time in the first half.

The lack of the three important midfielders Paul Seguin and Sebastian Ernst (both suspended) and Julian Green (positive corona test) could clearly be seen in the Franks.

Mees completed the first rapid attack via Fabian Reese on the left to take the lead.

The light-footed guests, who had to do without the banned veteran Fin Bartels, repeatedly presented the Fürth with problems with their fast and direct game.

On the defensive, too, the uncertain home side was noticeably lacking two regular players (Mergim Mavraj and Paul Jaeckel).

Out of nowhere, however, the Fürth team achieved the compensation.

Nielsen climbed up and gave goalkeeper Ioannis Gelios no chance with his wonderful header from around 14 meters.

The Kiel had to be accused of not having scored more goals at the break.

Coach Ole Werner's team set the tone even after the break.

Jae Sung Lee repeatedly escaped the Fürthers around the insecure Abdourahmane Barry.

The Franconians acted now with more conviction and approached the Holstein gate.

Mühling then involuntarily gave the home side the win with his own goal.
