Brussels (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's farmers can in future be supported with 30 million euros for better environmental protection.

This was announced on Monday by the EU Commission and approved the funds that farmers can use to help implement the so-called Water Framework Directive.

The guideline was passed in 2000 and is intended to ensure water protection in the European Union.

According to the EU Commission, the aim of the aid funds that have now been approved is to compensate the farmers for some loss of income and additional costs.

These would result from bans on farming along natural waters.

The money is said to come from funds from the Free State of Bavaria.
