Containment measures will be implemented for the next two weekends in the municipalities of the Alpes-Maritimes coast to fight against the spread of Covid-19, the prefect Bernard Gonzalez announced on Monday.

One-hour outings will be authorized with dispensation (doctors, pets, sport, walks) within a radius of 5km from the home from Friday 6:00 p.m. to Monday 6:00 a.m. in an area extending from Théoule-sur-Mer to Menton, which nearly 90% of the population of the department is concentrated.

Such a territorialized confinement measure is a first since the start of the health crisis in the metropolitan territory.

In addition, for 15 days from Tuesday, businesses of more than 5,000m2, except pharmacies and food shops, will also be closed in the department, said during a press conference the prefect.

For shops over 400m2, the gauge will drop from 10 to 15m2 per visitor.

The prefect who called for the barrier gestures to be "applied very strictly", in particular asked "the business operators" concerned "to equip themselves with a Covid mediator" in charge of enforcing the rules.

Controls at the Italian border will also be reinforced, such as controls at airports, continued the prefect, citing the possibility of having a PCR test on all passengers on a flight.

The prefect also announced an "acceleration" of the vaccination campaign in the department, where around 4,500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine should be received in the coming days - 1,000 more than what the authorities had already promised during the visit. by Minister of Health Olivier Véran in Nice on Saturday.

Finally, the possibility of being vaccinated will be offered to people aged 59 to 64 and suffering from comorbidities: with this objective, many doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine must be sent to the Alpes-Maritimes soon, assured Mr. Gonzalez.
