- What makes the population in Jönköping County increase compared to the year before is above all the influx.

The county registers 11,607 immigrants, compared with 10,771 migrants, says Linus Garp, population statistician at Statistics Sweden in a press release.

In eight of the county's 13 municipalities, the population increased.

The largest percentage increase was in Vaggeryd municipality with 1.8 percent.

In five of the county's municipalities, the population decreased last year, most in Gislaved's municipality where the population decreased by 1.1 percent.

Minimum increase in five years

The county's largest municipality, Jönköping, increased by 1,346 inhabitants.

It was still the smallest increase since 2015 when the population increased by 1,170 people.

In the last four years, the municipality has annually increased its population by between 1,700-2,200 people.

In the last ten years, Jönköping County has had a significant increase in population, according to statistics from Statistics Sweden.

- Jönköping County is one of the counties that has had a noticeable population growth in recent years.

In ten years' time, the number of inhabitants has risen from 336,866 to 365,010, an increase of 8.4 percent, says Linus Garp.

Minimum population increase in 15 years

Across the country, the population increased by 0.5 percent in 2020, which is the lowest increase in 15 years.

The population increased last year by 51,706 people and Sweden's population at the turn of the year amounted to 10,379,295 people.

Despite the fact that immigration to Sweden decreased sharply compared with 2019, it was still the immigration surplus that mainly increased Sweden's population, according to Statistics Sweden.
