Rostock (dpa / mv) - The number of registered corona infections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was again above the level of a week ago on Monday.

The State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus) in Rostock reported 73 new infections after 56 on Monday last week.

Another 14 people died from or with the virus, bringing the total number of fatalities since the pandemic started last spring to 706.

In hospitals, 293 Covid patents are currently being treated, four fewer than on Sunday.

There are 79 patients in intensive care units, one more than the day before.

The seven-day incidence - the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week - nevertheless fell slightly from 67.5 on Sunday to 67.2.

It was highest in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district with 163.8, and the lowest in the neighboring district of Vorpommern-Rügen with 21.4.

The city of Rostock (27.2) and the district of Rostock (39.9) were also below the 50 mark.

The incidence was between 50 and 100 in the districts of Ludwigslust-Parchim (68.5), Northwest Mecklenburg (74.4), Mecklenburg Lake District (62.8) and in the city of Schwerin 82.6).

The total number of proven corona infections in the country is now 23,508, and 20,628 people are considered recovered.
