Berlin (dpa) - For customers in local public transport in the capital region, new offers are needed in and after the Corona crisis, from the point of view of the head of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association.

"We are in the process of checking what fits and when we can implement it," said Susanne Henckel of the "Berliner Morgenpost" (Sunday).

Reduced daily ticket quotas are conceivable, but also ten tickets and discount models.

In addition, a stronger combination of local public transport (ÖPNV) and bicycle is possible.

"It could look like this so that those who have a subscription can take their bike with them for a certain period of time free of charge," said Henckel.

"That could be a good solution for the summer."

Due to the Corona crisis, the demand for local public transport has also collapsed in the capital region.

Henckel said that around 30,000 subscriptions had already been canceled from the Berlin transport company (BVG) alone.

The transport companies in Germany are currently negotiating further subsidies with the federal and state governments.

Local public transport is financed half by passenger revenue and half by state funds.

In view of the financial problems, Henckel spoke out in favor of a third pillar of funding.

"If you could use the parking fees to co-finance the transport network of the environmental association, we would come a good step further," she said.
