Sources told Al-Jazeera that the Libyan Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha survived an assassination attempt after his convoy came under fire from an armored vehicle while it was passing by the Janzour area, west of Tripoli.

The sources added that the security forces were able to arrest two of the attackers and wound a third, after their car overturned.

Al-Jazeera correspondent in Libya, Nasser Shadid, reported that Bashagha survived the attack and was unharmed, and that he arrived in the capital, Tripoli, safely.
