Cologne (dpa) - In allusion to Martin Luther, the Catholic reform initiative Maria 2.0 attached theses to one of the portals of Cologne Cathedral and many other church doors in North Rhine-Westphalia on Sunday.

With the campaign, the Catholic women want to point out "blatant grievances" in the church.

About ten women from the initiative attached two posters with cable ties to the south portal of the cathedral.

It is said that the reformer Luther nailed his theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg in 1517 is more of a legend, but his criticism of the conditions at the time set great things in motion.

The fellow campaigners of Maria 2.0 demand in their theses, among other things, a church with “access for all people to all offices”.

"Today human rights and the Basic Law guarantee all people the same rights - only the Catholic Church ignores that", criticizes Maria 2.0.

Women are systematically disadvantaged by denying them the priesthood.

The initiative also insists on persecuting and combating sexualised violence.

Unfortunately, at the moment: "Church rulers keep information on such violent crimes under lock and key and avoid responsibility."

Maria 2.0 takes the view that the Catholic sexual morality is «alien to life and discriminatory».

It is not based on the Christian image of man and is no longer taken seriously by the majority of believers - that has to change.

“Our church is colorful,” the women make clear.

According to the initiative, celibacy, the mandatory celibacy of priests, is to be lifted.

Because those who cannot comply with this obligation often live behind a false facade.

Maria 2.0 called on the German Bishops' Conference to seriously consider the necessary reforms at its spring assembly next week.

The will to change must be witnessed by deeds.
