The "Rafid Traffic Accident Planning" company stated that its teams have dealt since the beginning of this year with more than 9198 minor accidents, the violation of "not leaving a safety distance" topped the list of causes, with a rate of more than 62%, considering it the most dangerous traffic violation.

In detail, a former official in an insurance company, Naim Al-Nasser, confirmed that not leaving enough space between vehicles while traveling on the roads is one of the most common causes of traffic accidents, pointing out that “this behavior may be the cause of a fatal or serious accident, especially On the external roads ».

And he indicated that there are several ways to determine the safe distance between vehicles, the most important of which is the stopping distance, which is the distance the vehicle travels from the moment the driver realizes his need to press the brakes to stop his vehicle until the moment the vehicle actually stops before colliding with the car in front of it.

He explained that determining the stopping distance depends on several factors, namely the vehicle's speed, road conditions, weather conditions, the condition of the brakes and tires, and the driver's alertness.

A traffic accident expert in an insurance company, Jihad Fawzi Muammar, confirmed that his work includes reviewing traffic reports and inspecting accidents and the resulting damages, pointing out that "the majority of traffic accidents that we dealt with were caused by not leaving enough distance."

He added that the reaction to the safety distance differs according to the vehicle’s speed and its distance from the car in front of it, explaining that “a driver traveling at 80 kilometers per hour needs 35 meters in response distance to avoid colliding with the vehicle traveling in front of him.”

He stated that «some accidents happen because of urgency, especially in fast lanes, as the driver is adjacent to the vehicle that is going in front of him, ignoring the need to leave a safety distance».

He called for spreading awareness messages and videos explaining the dangerous effects of these behaviors, and the deaths and injuries they cause, ranging from simple to medium to severe.

In turn, Sharjah Police confirmed the launch of initiatives and the transmission of awareness messages on social media and its media platforms, calling on drivers to leave a safe distance between vehicles to avoid traffic accidents, pointing out that it had detected many accidents due to not leaving enough space between vehicles.

She pointed to the imposition of a traffic violation of 400 dirhams and four black points for not leaving the required distance behind the vehicles, confirming the danger resulting from not leaving a safety distance and not allowing space for those coming from behind.

She explained that, at the beginning of this month, it launched an electronic traffic awareness campaign under the slogan "Stay on your path .. secure your safety", to reduce the effects of traffic accidents.
