Berlin (dpa) - According to initial findings, a fire in an apartment building in Spandau with a seriously injured person was triggered by the explosion of a propane gas bottle in a radiant heater.
The radiant heater was initially in the child's room of the son of the 36-year-old apartment owner, as the police announced on Sunday.
When the woman noticed the smell of gas and unusual noises on the gas bottle on Saturday evening, the woman's 35-year-old partner pulled the device into the kitchen.
There was then an explosion.
The man came to the hospital with severe burn injuries.
There were no other injuries in the explosion and the subsequent fire, said a police spokesman.
The fire brigade had spoken of three other slightly injured people that evening.
When the emergency services arrived, the apartment on the second floor had already burned to its full extent, it said.
The flames also spread to the apartment above on the third floor.
All eight apartments in the apartment building are no longer habitable after the extinguishing work, said the police spokesman.
Those affected had found other accommodations themselves.
