Dortmund (dpa) - Surprisingly, European high jump champion Mateusz Przybylko only finished fifth at the German indoor championships for athletes.

The 28-year-old five-time indoor champion and defending champion from Leverkusen, handicapped by a foot injury, did not go more than 2.10 meters on Sunday.

He had to share fifth place with Luca Meinke from Schweriner SC at the same height.

«My shoe broke during a competition in Frankfurt, and I've been struggling with foot problems ever since.

Maybe it's a periosteum, ”said Przybylko.

The new German champion was Jonas Wagner from Dresden with 2.28 meters.

With his personal best, increased by six centimeters, he secured a starting place for the European Indoor Championships in two weeks in Torun / Poland.

Falk Wendrich from LAZ Soest came second with 2.23 meters.
