Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The health authorities in Rhineland-Palatinate registered 336 new corona infections on Sunday within 24 hours.

6258 people in the country are currently infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus, as the state government announced (as of 11.12 a.m.).

The number of patients who died from the coronavirus increased by 4 to 2991.

The so-called 7-day incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 7 days, was 51.1 on Sunday in all of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The key figure on Saturday was still below the important 50 mark, specifically at 48.2.

Of the 100,108 infections detected so far since the beginning of the pandemic, 719 were classified as "Variant of Concern" (for example: worrying Sars-CoV-2 variant) on Sunday.

This means, for example, cases of the coronavirus variants first discovered in Great Britain and South Africa that are more contagious.
