Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Catholic reform movement “Maria 2.0” is planning several campaigns for today at various locations in Baden-Württemberg and across Germany.
The initiators did not want to reveal what it was all about in advance.
In 2019 the movement stirred up the Catholic Church with its women's strike.
After that it was a little quieter, but now the reformers are getting new momentum, which is also due to a certain headwind from the Vatican.
At the beginning of February a report in the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” became known, according to which the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith should deal with “Maria 2.0”.
The stumbling block is supposed to be a protest by women's rights activists against the reluctance to issue an abuse report by Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki from Cologne.
In November, members of Maria 2.0 protested against Woelki keeping the report under lock and key with a «confessional» under the motto «Out with the files».
He justified this with legal concerns.
The reformers see their work confirmed after reports of an observation by the Vatican.
"That is an accolade," said the co-founder of the movement, Lisa Kötter from Münster.
"It shows that we hit a nerve."
